Michael Poole

AvE Ambassador

Born in Tauranga, New Zealand, professional triathlete Michael Poole grew up playing a range of sports. He was a member of the under-12 national soccer team. Through high school, he competed in and won multiple national titles, gaining recognition for his athletic prowess in running, cycling, triathlon, duathlon, and other multi-sport events. Before moving to the U.S. in 2011, he represented his nation in both triathlon and cycling.

During a cycling training session at age 18, Poole experienced his first seizure. Temporarily derailed and uncertain whether he would be able to continue his professional triathlon career, Poole relied on the advice of his medical team to help him successfully manage and control his seizures.

Today Poole balances a demanding triathlon career with his education — he is majoring in chemical engineering at the University of South Florida. This year alone, the gifted and hard-working athlete has claimed six podium finishes and two wins.

When Poole is not traveling for competitions, he serves as a spokesperson for the Epilepsy Foundation’s Athletes vs. Epilepsy initiative, a national campaign to help spread epilepsy awareness.

Poole currently resides in Tampa Bay.
